By now, we all know that self care is of paramount importance. It’s been a mainstay on this very blog since I started writing. A lot of stories that center on self care, though, seem to focus on great big things people can do to care for themselves–things that can take up a lot of time, energy, and/or money. In my opinion, however, self care should be a DAILY thing. And a weekly thing. And a monthly thing. Seriously, guys; we should be treating ourselves well as frequently as possible. But how?! Like THIS. (If you’re me, anyway.) Here are a few self-care rituals I do each day, week, and month…feel free to make them yours! 😉 (more…)
Beginnings can be rough. They’re exciting and full of promise, yeah, but they can also be daunting. I feel like this can be especially true when it comes to a lifestyle change. Committing to “healthy living”, for example, doesn’t sound super fun if it means focusing on all of the extra workouts you have to do and all of the yummy things you cannot eat. It doesn’t have to be that way, though! You can take four, itty-bitty baby steps into the world of health and wellness over the course of a month that can spur massive change. Sound appealing?! Well, it starts with food. Nutrition is a major part of feeling and looking good, so instead of making crazy, extreme, overwhelming dietary changes, we’ll focus on food (or more specifically, what goes into your body!) and work on cleaning up your intake in a way that is pretty painless, but seriously beneficial. Whether you’re looking to get back on track or are just starting out with living healthy, embracing these tasks will have you feeling healthy and well in no time! Here’s your roadmap for kicking off a healthy life. (more…)
I’m a big believer in the importance of having things to look forward to. Anticipation is a powerful thing! One of the best parts about the feeling of anticipation, in my opinion, is the feeling of excitement that goes along with it. Really, is there any better feeling than being really and truly EXCITED about something? I think not. It’s great. Excitement is also a pretty personal thing…you can find out a lot about a person if you can figure out what kind of things excite them, even if the person in question is you. In that spirit, here’s the second installment of my omgSOexcited series! Here are a few things I’m excited about & looking forward to this week.

In an attempt to be more aware of the things in my life that bring me joy, and to hopefully attract a little more joy and excitement to my life, I’m starting this series about, well, things I’m excited about! I want to make this kind of post a semi-weekly occurrence here…it’s a good opportunity to kick off the week right, and to use a lot of exclamation points. Both v important things, as far as I’m concerned. Here’s the scoop on five things that I’m excited about right now…not including the super-bomb dinner I’m gonna eat tonight. (more…)
Squeezing in this edition of this tiny-life-improvement series in the final hours of #SelfCareSunday. I had the most indulgent, low-key Saturday ever yesterday, and am (finally) feeling like myself again. I haven’t blogged or even talked much about it, but I’ve been dealing with some pretty intense emotional overwhelm and anxiety over the last four to six weeks, and yesterday I woke up feeling especially terrible. I knew I needed to STOP and let myself rest…or else. I gave in to my desire to slow things WAY down: I stayed in bed for as long as felt good, turned my phone on ‘do not disturb’, made a serious dent in the Audible book I’m currently streaming, ate intuitively and treated myself to chocolate cake, and rounded things out with a candlelit bath. Truth be told, I felt a bit guilty about being “lazy” and “wasting” a perfectly beautiful summer day, but needed to be still and truly look after myself yesterday. No expectations, obligations, or regrets. I needed to press some kind of reset button. I’m so glad I did. ANYWAY! In the spirit of self care, here are a few more quick, simple things you can do to make your life just a lil better this week.
This weekend, I received an email from Lauren of Lauren Lives Healthy that contained a blog post outlining her ideal morning routine, and I loved it! Getting a peek into bloggers’ day-to-day lives is always something I enjoy, and Lauren’s post didn’t disappoint. (Check it out HERE!) Her commentary on the topic not only served as inspiration for this post, but it also got me thinking about my own daily cadence, especially when it came to mornings. Our mornings have the power to the tone for the entire day. Seriously, starting things off on the right foot has a massive impact on how your day feels and goes, so creating a morning routine that really works for you is essential. It’s self-care, personal development, and just healthy, balanced living. While I can’t wake up to crashing waves, a giant platter of fresh-cut tropical fruit, and do yoga on a beach every morning, there are things that I’d like to do that would allow me to have a reasonably awesome daily experience. This is what my ideal morning would look like on an ideal day…the kind of day where I don’t need to work and also don’t necessarily have anything specific planned, but I still want to feel productive and on track. These things definitely don’t happen each and every day, but I always feel better when they DO happen. It’s a routine that’s practical, but still indulgent. Completely ideal. Here’s my dreamy morning routine! (more…)
