Currently…/ / March 2017

Dropping in with a personal post to catch you all up on what’s happening with me: currently. I always have a bit of a soft spot for these features whenever they surface on other blogs, so I’m hoping that you guys will enjoy this little entry. I’m hoping to resume a semi-normal, though admittedly pared-down posting schedule, and to focus on writing more non-personal posts soon, by the way. Until then, though, here’s a quick update. My 2017 Word of the Year

I didn’t make any resolutions this year. That’s a first for me. Instead, I found myself drawn to the idea of a Word of the Year–choosing a single term that serves to represent what you’d like to get out of the next 12 months.

The value of selecting a specific word for the year, I think, is that instead of setting rigid, concrete goals, you’re setting a gentle-but-powerful intention. A WOTY is a bite-sized mantra that you can reference and use as inspiration, or to attract more of a certain element into your existence. It can also hold you accountable. So, pick a word. Let’s set the mood for 2017, shall we?!

My word of the year is FIRE.

It’s actually an acronym, though:

Focused

Intentional

Ready

Pushing Pause

I haven’t written in…a long time. To be completely honest, I just haven’t been feeling it. It’s not overwhelm or burnout, it’s, frankly, feeling rather uninspired. I haven’t felt like writing. Know what happens when I’m habitually forcing myself to write? I write garbage stuff that I hate! That’s the short answer, anyway. This post is an attempt to cover the entire story.

Truth: I’m not sure what’s next for me, or for this blog in 2017. I don’t want to commit to a regular posting schedule, because I don’t know that it’s something that I am able to–or even want–to continue to do. In some ways, I feel like this is the end of an era. I’ve been writing online, in a professional capacity, for close to ten years at this point! From a two-stories-a-week internship my freshman year of college, to an editorial director role that required two stories a day with no days off, to the grind of contract-free freelance work, it’s been, well, a lot. Writing has always been my number one love in life, so it freaks me out a little to be at this turning point where I really don’t know if it’s what I want to be doing anymore. At least…not on a full-time basis. My heart is forever thirsty. I have new loves and passions and interests and curiosities. I want to explore. I don’t want to be reigned in. It’s not that I don’t want to do THIS anymore, I just want to do it in a very different way. There’s phases. Eras. Cycles. 2009 – 2013, for me, was fashion and style. 2013 – 2016 was fitness and wellness. I don’t even know what my next thing is going to be. I have to figure out what inspires me.  What I feel so excited about that I’m practically compelled to write about it. It’s going to take some searching. (more…)

Loving Lately: 12.09.16 ♡

It’s (somehow?!) the last Loving Lately of 2016! Here are four things I’m super into rn…#4 is definitely my fav. 😉

1. International Delight Frosted Sugar Cookie Coffee Creamer.

So…I drink coffee now. Instead of walking to Starbucks every morning and getting a Spiced Sweet Cream Cold Brew or an iced double shot with coconut milk, I’ve been making caffeinated concoctions at home. My go-to ATM involves coffee, lots of cinnamon, and flavored coffee creamer, specifically International Delight’s new seasonal Frosted Sugar Cookie creamer. OMG. It literally tastes like liquified Christmas cookies. Best discovery ever. So yeah, I add the stuff to coffee, duh, but it also makes an amazing addition to a lazy girl frozen hot chocolate I make in the Vitamix–just an instant hot chocolate packet, ice, water, and a generous pour of this creamer and you have the easiest faux-gourmet treat around.
