It’s officially spring now, so naturally I’m already looking ahead to summer…AKA bikini season! As with everything in apparel,  the swimwear genre goes through phases and has its own unique set of trends. In 2013, for example, high-waisted bottoms became a thing. In 2014, bikini tops and rash guards combined for a crop-top-kini moment. What’s going to be major this year? These four things. Here’s what’s hot in swimwear for summer 2015.

1. Super strappy.

Commit to those weird tan lines, girl! Strappy swimsuits are hot and here to stay. Tops, bottoms, sides, wherever–straps are everywhere, and they’re super hot. Acacia pretty much started the strappy swimsuit revolution, but Target even stocks strappy bikinis now, so the trend is thoroughly mainstream and nothing to feel weird about.

2. Sporty styles.

I recently picked up a swimsuit that would qualify as sporty–it’s black with white piping, a halter top, and has bottoms with moderate {instead of my usual minimal} butt coverage. Why? Because it reminded me of something a dolphin trainer would wear. When I was little I always wanted to be a dolphin trainer, so roughly 20 years later, this suit allows me to embody those dreams. Dolphin training aside, sportier suits are becoming more and more popular due to Triangl’s drool-worthy neoprene styles. The sexy-meets-sporty vibes these suits elicit makes for instant cool-girl style. Plus, you can swim, surf, and generally be active in them without worrying about indecent exposure.

3. Barely-there bottoms.

I feel like 2014 was the year when the public really began to accept and embrace Brazilian-cut bikini bottoms. I mean, Victoria’s Secret featured an entire line of “itsy” bottoms, and they’re in every mall and are about as basic/classic as you can get. With 2015 already being touted as “the year of the butt”, I don’t see this trend going anywhere any time soon. Fun fact about minimal coverage bottoms: they’re almost ALWAYS more flattering than moderate or full coverage styles. Not only do they make your butt look amazing, but less fabric = less muffin top. Try it out if you haven’t already! You’ll be surprised.

4. Sexy one-pieces.

You read that right–the right one-piece can be totally sexy. Sometimes less is more, you know. Far from basic, 2015’s one-piece offerings include classic strapless styles, high-cut legs, plunging necklines, cut outs, straps, and even mesh, making finding the perfect singlet a synch no matter your body type. Channel your inner T.Swift and hide your belly button, while also channeling your inner Miley Cyrus and barely covering your nips. Seriously, a one piece can be just as much daring as it is demure…you just have to know where to shop for one.

Will you be wearing any of these styles this summer? Any particular trends I missed?

xx,

Liza
