Fit girl prob: keeping your tresses out of your face during {and honestly, AFTER} daily workouts, but also maintaining the health and integrity of your strands. Solution? There are a few! It’s totally possible to be comfortable and to control your mane simultaneously. Some, of course, are better than others. I’ll break it down for ya here! If you’re concerned about controlling and caring for your hair, these items are your best bets.

Good: Ribbon hair ties.

If you don’t have at least a pack or two of your favorite brand of ribbon ties, you’re doing it wrong. Less damaging than traditional hair bands, ribbon hair ties do double duty as hair and wrist accessories. Staying power is excellent, they’re “ouchless”, they don’t leave dents in your hair post-pony, and they’re a super easy DIY project to master if you’re even the littlest bit crafty. Did I mention that they’re super cute? Seriously–they’re the best{ish}

Better: Scrunchies.

We’ve talked scrunchy magic a few times here on TSB, so it only makes sense that they’d get a nod here. They’re not as subtle as ribbon hair ties, and they don’t hold QUITE as well as traditional ones, but they do far less damage to your hair, making them the “better” option. No tears, snagging, tangles, or fallout. Take a baby step and rock one on a random Thursday so you can claim you’re doing it for #tbt value if you happen to get called out {on your obvious awesomeness}.

Best: Alligator clips.

No, I’m not talking hair claws or butterflies a la Lizzie McGuire–the genius hair clips in question are the same kind typically used by stylists to section off your hair during coloring or blowdrying. Long, flat, plastic minimally toothy…THESE are the clips you’re going for. Twist your hair up and clip the twist to the top of your head, putting the bottom of the clip through both the hair on the crown of your head and the twist. Though they likely won’t stay super secure during a high-intensity workout, they’re perfect for low-to-moderate-intensity style living. Daily tasks, chores, chill workouts, shopping, and lounging are all fair game.

Have any haircare secrets to share?
