Meet my newest beauty BFF.
Meet my newest beauty BFF.

Need a $5 mid-week pick-me-up? Hit the beauty aisle! My latest obsession {and major mood booster} is a tube of Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Black Cherry.

First things first: Yes, it’s dark. I tend to gravitate toward moodier colors like this one on two distinct occasions: one, when I am brunette. Two, when it’s winter. Seeing as it’s nearly spring and I’m currently sporting a sunny balayage blonde, it’s rather strange that I was drawn to this particular shade of lipstick last Friday, let alone feeling compelled to share it on the blog today. I’m convinced that my finding it was fate, though, because I don’t think I’ve ever owned a more perfect lippie. For me, this is saying something. You see, I love the look of lipstick, but I don’t particularly enjoy the feel, or the $15+ price tag that trendy cosmetics seem to fetch. While I know that there are entire sites and Pinterest boards dedicated to finding and reviewing drugstore dupes of MAC and NARS products, I usually just don’t bother. If I buy a lipstick, I wear it maybe three times–each time growing more annoyed–before I lose it, throw it away, or toss it in a bathroom drawer never to be seen again {until I move}. This lipstick is different. THIS lipstick is everything. So screw the seasons–we’re covering it.

I love you so much that I kissed a piece of paper for you.

Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipstick in Black Cherry {AKA shade 477} is the perfect deep, moody plum. In the tube, and on a swatch, it most closely resembles Chanel’s cult classic “Vamp” nail polish, in that it looks like dried blood…in the chicest possible way. On my lips, it takes on more of a red wine tone. Like, what you’d HOPE your mouth would look like after drinking a bottle of wine {even though it never actually does}. My husband describes it as “grown sexy”, which I take to be a positive attribute. Dark, but not too dark, plum but not too purple, rich in color but not juvenile, Black Cherry is gorgeous. Bonus: The formula, while far from hydrating, doesn’t seem to dry out my lips in the same way that most lipsticks do, and the staying power is decent. Plus, as it starts to fade {which for me, happened around hour three of wear}, it takes on a rich berry-esque stain. So pretty. Did I mention a tube is under $10 and that they sell it at Target? Mhmm. Go pick up a tube there, or online HERE if you’re feeling sassy.

Sometimes beauty buys are the best buys.

xx,

Liza
