Believe it or not, there are actually some occasions wherein gym/yoga/studio attire is entirely inappropriate! Sometimes a girl just needs a great pair of jeans and a pointy-toe heel, you know? When you want to take your sartorial game to a different level, feel free to tackle one of the season’s latest trends: FRINGE. Here’s what’s in and how to wear it.

Like: Boots.

I’m kind of obsessed with little fringe booties. They’re a quintessential festival fashion piece that also happen to translate pretty seamlessly to real-life wardrobes. Plus, you have options! There are fringe-adorned cowboy, moccasin, and ankle boots with variation in heel height galore. Go Coachella and style them with little denim cut-offs and an off-the-shoulder top, or adapt them to the real world with skinny jeans and a tank.

The best part about fringe bags being trendy? There’s an option available at literally every price point. From slouchy, bohemian shoulder bags, to cute fringe clutches, to backpacks, there’s a 70s-chic option available for everyone. It’s kind of crazy how much the addition of fringe detailing can make a simple black or brown leather bag look that much more eye-catching, stylish, and expensive…if it’s done correctly. In my opinion, the best iteration of the 2015 fringed bag is one that is in a neutral hue and in classic leather–NOT suede. It’s a subtle update, but keeps your look modern and fresh. Make your bag the centerpiece of your outfit and avoid other fringe appearances within the same look.

When it comes to clothing that incorporates fringe, my personal taste and level of comfort is “proceed with caution”. If your own personal style is exceptionally boho, vintage-inspired, or you consider yourself a trend hound, though, you may want to take the leap and opt for actual fringe-y apparel. Common pieces include skirts, dresses, and leather jackets, though fringe-y, lace-up shorts seem to make an appearance every festival season, too. To avoid looking like fashion roadkill, keep the rest of your ensemble simple and clean. Minimal jewelry, classic washes, perfectly tailoring. The fringe is basically just a really fabulous focal point. You want to be trend KISSED, not covered.
