HowtoWearGymShoesOutsideoftheGym

Athleisure strikes again! The sporty-chic look is here to stay, and I for one, am totally into it. The latest trend? Wearing sporty shoes as a part of your regular, daytime ensemble. Mastering this look can be a little tricky–I have definite flashbacks to awkward middle school years in Madison flare jeans from A&F  coupled with baby blue-striped Adidas–but once you get the hang of it, not only will you look like a total model-off-duty, but you also won’t want to wear any other shoes ever again. Win win, right? Here’s how to {stylishly!} wear your gym shoes outside of the gym.

  • Go monochrome. Look, I love a good pair of neon kicks as much as the next girl. Sparkles speak to me. But when it comes to maximizing your wardrobe, single-color, CLASSIC sneaks are the way to go. A pair of black Nikes simply blend more seamlessly into daywear–that’s probably what you’re going for. Your shoes should compliment your outfit, not serve as its centerpiece.
  • Opt for edge. Intentional dichotomy is one of my favorite looks…think, a sundress with a leather jacket, or boyfriend jeans with a crop top. When it comes to styling an outfit with sneakers, however, I prefer to stick with an all-around edgy aesthetic. Fact: Sneakers pair amazingly well with ripped black jeans, leather jackets, and beanies. It just works.
  • Play up the sporty vibes. Feel weird about wearing your gym shoes with your street clothes? Take some baby steps and go for an intentionally sporty-chic look. Yoga pants, joggers, jerseys, and studio jackets are all fair game. It looks and feels natural, and you’re totally set for an impromptu sweat sesh 24/7!
  • Show off your legs. Short skirts and sneakers make a surprisingly hot combo! Put on your favorite gym shoes and show off your stems with a midi or mini skirt. Opt for no-show socks to keep things from looking awkward. Sounds weird, but totally works.
