Here’s a dramatic statement: I’m convinced that the world is a better place because health bars exist. The fact that we have the ability to grab a quick, convenient, tasty whole-foods bar 24/7 is awesome, yes? Unfortunately, some “health” bars suck. They can be nutritionally devoid–packed full of foreign ingredients, highly processed, overflowing with sugar. They can be expensive. They can also just taste straight-up nasty. I’ve tried a bunch, and I definitely have my favorites. What qualifies? Typically, I look for a bar that’s simple, tasty, and natural. Something I can grab on-the-go or indulge in to curb my sweet tooth after a meal. I like my bars whole, wholesome, and delicious…most of the time 😉 Here are three of my {current} favorite health bars!

1. “Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough”, LÄRABAR.

I’m completely enamored with all things LÄRABAR. Their health bars are consistently delicious, have great nutrition profiles, and feature short ingredients lists–none of the bars in the LÄRABAR family contain more than nine ingredients. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough? It only has FOUR: Dates, cashews, sea salt, and chocolate chips. Omg. They’re gluten-free, non-GMO, dairy-free, vegan, and kosher. And yes, they totally taste like chocolate chip cookie dough. Super dense, rich, and satisfying. Available in single servings and in boxes of 16. 210 calories, 16g sugar, 4g protein. SHOP.

2. “Blueberry Vanilla & Cashew”, KIND.

It’s kind of a no-brainer that I’d be obsessed with this bar–it’s literally a combination of three of my all-time favorite ingredients. It’s chewy, fresh, and sweet, but not TOO sweet. Wholesome, flavorful, yummy. I love the mouth-feel of KIND bars, too, because they’re the perfect combination of crunchy and chewy. They’re never dry, and they’re never sticky. Other health attributes of theBlueberry Vanilla & Cashew bars: non-GMO, gluten-free, low-glycemic, dairy-free, transfat-free, and low-sodium. The bars come in single servings, or in a package of 12. They’re 190 calories each, 11g of sugar, and 4g of protein. SHOP.

3. “Chocolate Cupcake”, Luna

The new kid on the health bar block, Luna’s Chocolate Cupcake bar was just released this winter. As I mentioned on Instagram, I’m usually not a huge fan of Luna bars. I tried almost all of their flavors when I was in high school and they were trendy, but I always felt like they were simply a poor replacement for a candy bar. That, and I could taste the soy…something about the flavoring was off. When the Chocolate Cupcake bars started to make an appearance on Insta and Twitter last month, though, I was intrigued. I mean, I love cake, so… I found the bars late last month at my grocery store and bought one to try. YUM! These are the perfect cake-y, post-dinner or PMS indulgence. They feel really decadent, but they’re gluten-free, low glycemic, and high in folic acid and calcium. They have WAY more ingredients than bars I typically consume {dislike}, but they’re a great treat. Available in single servings or in boxes of six. 180 calories, 12g sugar, 9g protein. SHOP.

What are your favorite protein/health/snack bars?

xx,

Liza
