I feel like part of being a legitimate adult includes having a go-to skincare regiment–a ritualistic, product-centered routine that one does each and every night, like clockwork, to cleanse themselves, shedding their not only their makeup, but the trials of the day. By this standard, I am nowhere near legitimate adulthood. I sleep in my makeup {when I wear it} more often than I care to admit, and I have accumulated fewer go-to skincare products than I can count on one hand. It’s just not something I think much about!

But I {probably} totally should.

I mean, I have specific creams and gels for my problem areas, like dark spots, occasional oil slicks, and breakouts…How did I not have the most basic of every day  skincare?! Sometime last month, I set out on a quest to find skincare products that fit my personal needs in the hopes of developing a more consistent, legitimate skincare routine. Products that are reasonably priced, work well, and make caring for your skin simple. I poured through online reviews, read magazine features, tested samples, and did a lot of in-store browsing. I wanted like, three core products that I could use every day, without much thought or effort. Low maintenance.

I think I succeeded.

Here is my {current} personal product dream team for face and body!

  • Cleanser: Burt’s Bees Peach & Willow Bark Exfoliating Wipes.

Remember when Burt’s Bees was famous solely for their minty, beeswax-based chapstick? Times have definitely changed. The Bees now offer an entire arsenal of face, body, and even BABY care products, perfect for all of you granola betches out there. From makeup to shampoo to diaper cream, BB practically has their own entire aisle in the Target beauty section, which is where I found their peach exfoliating face wipes. Their beautiful, beautiful, face wipes. Wipes are kind of a no-brainer for me–they remove makeup, cleanse, and allow you to be super lazy all in one. That’s pretty fantastic. These peach and white willow wipes smell AMAZING and feature a textured weave on one side of their cloth to promote exfoliation. I use these in the morning to renew and refresh my skin before applying any other product, and at night to take off my makeup.

  • Moisturizer: Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer, SPF 15.

I’m always vaguely distrustful of moisturizer. I {irrationally} feel like my skin is generally soft and supple and hydrated enough, so adding something to that mix will only create breakouts. Definitely not the case, and whenever I DO use moisturizer, my skin looks and feels at least 5x better. Plus, this moisturizer from Cetaphil contains sunscreen, which we should ALL be applying on a daily basis in every single season. It’s basically the epitome of basic, but it works, it’s cheap, and gets the job done.

  • Eye cream: Aveda Green Science Firming Eye Creme.

I love eye cream. Eye cream makes me feel like a grown up. To me, putting on eye cream at night seems glamorous and indulgent…probably because I don’t actually need it yet. But I still like it! Besides, it’s preventative. Questionable necessity aside, my go-to eye cream is from hometown brand Aveda. I like that it’s pure and plant-based, but still feels like it’s doing something. Thus, “firming”. It’s hydrating and soothing and never fails to make me feel pretty, which is kind of a lot to ask from a basic beauty product. It’s so good, guys.

  • Exfoliant: Alba Botanica Hawaiian Papaya Mango Exfoliating Body Wash.

Every girl on Instagram is in love with Frank body scrub and I am no different. The coffee and essential oil-packed scrub is a superstar. It targets stretch marks and scars, reduces cellulite, and makes your skin super soft. Frank, however, is not my go-to shower product–it’s my treat. When it comes to body care, I need a product that does at least double duty if I’m going to commit to using it more than once a week. That’s why I’m particularly obsessed with Alba Botanica Hawaiian Papaya Mango Exfoliating Body Wash. It can be used on both face and body, is free of parabens and phthalates, features no artificial colors or animal testing, and smells amazing. Like you’re on a tropical vacation in your shower amazing. It’s fun and foamy, and the exfoliation–which is thanks to almond meal–is gentle. Love this stuff!

  • Shaving product: Skintimate Shave Gel + C. Booth Mimosa Honeysuckle Shaving Oil.

Shaving products are weird. On one hand, I find them kind of annoying and unnecessary, because you could totally shave with just soap and water. On the other, I am obsessed with them, because they make the entire shaving experience so. Much. Better. Oh, and easier, too. My two go-tos in this category couldn’t be more different, but they’re both so awesome that I couldn’t commit to just one. First, we have the old-school: Skintimate Shave Gel. It’s cheap, the packaging is cute, it comes in a variety of flavors and fragrances. It really does not only help you to get a nice, close shave, but also conditions and moisturized your legs. My new favorite shaving product, however, is shave oil! C.Booth’s Mimosa Honeysuckle Shaving Oil is the best. It’s is all-natural, a little goes a LONG way, and it softens your hair, making it easier to shave. Love. I usually apply this first-thing when I get into the shower, but wait to shave after I finish washing my hair. Pro {lazy girl} tip: Don’t want to buy a product just for shaving? Use your conditioner. It works just as well and offers all of the same benefits. Slather it on, shave, and go!

  • Moisturizer: TerraNova Tiare Lei Silky Body Oil + Coconut Oil.

I’m all about using oils for body hydration. If I’m bathing, I love putting a spoonful of coconut oil, or a couple of droppers full of vanilla-jojoba essential oil blend right in the water. If I’m feeling especially indulgent, I’ll use TerraNova’s Tiare Lei Silky Body Oil, which works on skin in or out of water. Bathe and go. That’s it. If I forget, or if I’m looking for something quick post-shower, a good spray-on oil, like this one from C.Booth, does the trick perfectly…especially during the summer. For more intensive hydration needs, I simply warm up a bit of coconut oil between my hands and rub it on, then put on socks and sweats and let it all sink in.

Do you have a skincare routine? What are your favorite products?

xx,

Liza
