Trendy Hats

True life: I’m obsessed with hats. All silhouettes, textiles, and trends are fair game for my head. Winter is perfect for embracing the hat game and starting (or expanding!) your collection. Aside from keeping you warm, a stylish topper can really set you apart from the masses. A slouchy beanie? Cozy and cute. Something structured and in felted wool? Elegant. No matter your aesthetic, there’s a cap for you. Here are a few of my seasonal favorites.

Felted Fedoras

Fedoras are tricky. They can either be really, really fabulous or complete and utter crap. You can expect to spend at least a good $25 on a wool fedora, but that investment will net an insane style payoff. Why? Because no matter how terrible the rest of your outfit is, with the addition of a great fedora and a pair of sunglasses, you appear instantly put together, and solidly in model-off-duty or celeb-at-airport territory. In a word, flawless.

Beanies

The 90s fashion revival is still going strong, so if you somehow missed out on purchasing a beanie the past few years, you’re in luck–they’re still trendy and you still have time to buy one. Like, at any price point–cheap beanies (we’re talking the $5 ones you stumble upon at Wallgreens) look just as good as their luxe, department store counterparts. Opt for something neutral: white/cream/grey/black/navy/greige and wear it whenever you want to look edgy and effortless. Beanies are also perfect for when you didn’t blow dry your hair and want that ridiculousness to appear intentional.

Fur

Fall and winter, at least to me, evoke two distinct things: jewel tones and fur. I tend to gravitate towards pieces  with (faux) fur trim around this time of year. Fur is classic, chic, and luxurious. A great fur hat is a definite attention grabber, so if you’re considering one, be prepared for the attention it is sure to attract. Perfect if you’re looking to make a splash or generally enjoy being the center of attention. Fur epitomizes the statement piece.

Berets

…it’s French, so we pretty much have to like it. Seriously though, there’s just something about a side bang peeking out from under a knit beret that I will always adore. More structured than a beanie but lower profile than a fedora, the beret is a must-have for aspiring hat collectors. I mean, It’s not an essential, but you still totally WANT one. Opt for a jewel tone and try avoid anything with sequins, rhinestones, or cat ears.
