Lemon + cayenne + maple syrup + water = Spicy Lemonade
(It also equals amazing.)
One of my favorite juice companies, Suja, makes two absolutely amaaazing bottled versions of spicy lemonades that I got totally hooked on. They aren’t a part of their traditional cleanses, but rather are meant to be enjoyed “as a tasty addition to your daily lifestyle.” Since I didn’t want to spend ~$70 a week on juice, however, I figured that this was something I needed to DIY if I wanted to enjoy it as frequently as my spicy little heart desires. Luckily for me, this concoction also happens to be the “juice” one drinks while participating in the famed “Master Cleanse”. Online recipes abound. Am I doing the master cleanse? Do I recommend it? Eff no! But I LOVE this blend and the benefits a morning serving or two provides.
The advantages: boosts your metabolism, reduces inflammation, works as a natural diuretic and reduces bloating, gently cleanses your liver, quells hunger, and (at least for me!) makes you feel all warm, tingly, and energized.
The drawbacks: it’s not a calorie-free beverage, and the maple syrup packs a sugary punch. Those perks though! Makes it all worth it, baby.
Here’s how it’s done.
TSB Spicy Lemonade
2 tablespoons real maple syrup (adjust according to your tastes–sometimes one TBS is sweet enough for me!)
2 tablespoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
1 pinch cayenne pepper (again, adjust according to your tastes! I like mine extra spicy, so I use a generous pinch. Traditional Master Cleanse recipes suggest 1/10 teaspoon cayenne!)
10-12 ounces cool or room-temperature filtered water
Combine all ingredients. Stir. Enjoy!
*PS: Rumor has it that you can make an even MORE powerful detox drink by adding ginger and buckwheat honey to this mix…definitely on my radar!
Sip and be sassy and satisfied!
