I’ll be the first to admit that the concept of trendy food is rather odd. Strange as it may be, though, it’s completely and totally REAL. Food trends are a thing, guys. Think: kale, brussels sprouts, green juice…Each of these delicacies had major “trendy food” moments. But what’s next?! To find out what’s “in” now, simply turn your attention to Instagram! Here are three of the trendiest foods people are currently eating (and photographing).
1. Acai Bowls
According to a Huffington Post article, an acai bowl is defined as, “basically a really think smoothie that’s been topped with oatmeal fruit or peanut butter, and then you wolf it down with a spoon. For breakfast.” So yeah, yum. Honestly, I think part of the reason that the superfood-amazingness that is the acai bowl has recently become so popular–aside from their supposedly amazing flavor, of course–is that they’re always extremely aesthetically pleasing. I mean, have you SEEN an ugly acai bowl? Even a homemade one? Didn’t think so. They always look so fresh and meticulously prepared and delicious! If we are what we eat, we should definitely all be eating more acai bowls.
Before the age of Instagram (and honestly, until about a month ago) I was pretty much convinced that figs came in two forms: dried, or packed into Fig Newtons. Obviously, this is not the case! Fresh raw figs are all over Instagram. So, how are the non-cookie figs being prepared? Basically, in any way imaginable. Pizza toppings, components of fruit salads, additions to cheese plates, stirred into oatmeal, yogurt, and muesli…Yeah, they’re everywhere. Further proof? A recent Tone It Up members-only email contained fig recopies! #trendy
Blendicanos are the coffee drink that Instagram made. Like, you can’t just walk into a Starbucks an order a blendi as their Insta-popularity would have you believe–you have to specify exactly what you want included and how you want your drink to be prepared. Originated by Instagram’s Michelle Bishop (@MSHELLLLL), a blendicano is almost guaranteed to both piss off your barista and delight your tastebuds. It consists of 2-4 shots of espresso, 4-6 pumps of sugar-free syrup in the flavor of your choosing, and ice, in a Venti cup, double blended. Top it off with a sprinkle or two of cinnamon, if you’re feeling sassy. Did I mention that it’s only 30 calories? Yeah. According to mshelllll, the correct/official way to order it is “quad espresso, SF vanilla (6 pumps), Venti scoop of ice, BLEND IT UP! + Splenda & cinnamon”…You’re welcome.
Eat any of these items recently? Pics or it doesn’t count!
